[livejournal.com profile] aj_stalin asked if I wanted to join her at Skuret tonight and see Hank and Mari perform. Seeing as I have no idea who these new, fresh, spitzy hip hop people are, and since I´m working my ass off trying to pass my exams this year, I of course said yes and went there with her.

And it was awesome.

We had weird shots, and listened to a lot of hip hop, and talked, and had fun, and basically it was exactly what I needed to get my mind off my studying for a few hours. So tonight was a success and hopefully I´ll be able to make up for lost time tomorrow morning.

Update: I didn't make up for lost time. But I'm here. Staring at the screen. Writing stuff (in theory).
I usually love the places I come from. Those of you who've met me will probably have noticed this by my good-natured picking on Holmestrand (the town I grew up in). Much like my love for a sickly child who looks like a circus freak, I love my home town. I have the same, though slightly less negative, love for Norway, and thus, I would like to promote it's good music and excellent taste. Alas, this is not to be, because Norwegian pop sucks. Let me give you some examples:

Ingrid Olava - Only just begun: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qjP-rySg6Xo

and

Lene Alexandra - My boobs are okay: http://youtube.com/watch?v=aqGrgaQsIIE

and of course, Chris Lee - worry no http://youtube.com/watch?v=rndsEAYOurU

For those of you who've heard/seen these videos before, I'd like you to watch them again (or remember them with horror) and think of what messages the Norwegian music industry is sending to the rest of the world. For the rest of you, enjoy the "best" of Norwegian pop. *shudder*

I'm not saying all Norwegian music sucks. We have bands like Kaisers Orchestra, Madrugada and Dimmu Borgir, but these are not pop bands.

So, my mom came visiting today. I've gotten two pairs of gorgeous new shoes, 4 tops and a purse from her (since she's the best mum ever), we've made dinner together, gotten drunk on wine, watched Bridget Jones' diary (again for the third time) and now she's sleeping while I'm waiting to get tired enough to sleep myself. Suffice to say, today's been wonderful and I'm drunk.

Now, onto my new obsession with Nick Cave and the bad seeds. that is, I've been obsessed with them before, but not to this degree. Everytime I relax I realize that "Red Right Hand" is running through my head. Not a big problem since it's a great song, but I'd like to share it with you. So please follow this link (found by [livejournal.com profile] chesire_monkey) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRPq4_xwSrA and see the lovely video based on Buffy ses 7 with my new favourite song.

Oh, and part of my love for this song is based on the lyrics, so please read it!

He'll wrap you in his arms tell you that you've been a good boy He'll rekindle all the dreams it took you a lifetime to destroy...A shadow is cast whereever he stands. Stacks of green paper in his red right hand )

I have some songs that just makes me feel sauve, cool, collected, hot and ready to do just about anything. I like to listen to songs like that right before I go out in the weekends, but usually I just listen to one of my cd's that has one or two of those songs on it. Now, however, I've decided to collect them, to make the ultimate "get ready for going out"-album that can make me feel great in that cool/sexy way anytime it's time to go out (which should be soon since I've been an in-door kitty for way too long now). So far I've got these songs:

Nick Cave and the bad seeds – Red right hand
Leonard Cohen – First we take Manhatten
Leonard Cohen – the Future
Tom Waits –Everything goes to hell
Iggy Pop – Gimme danger
Garbage - First crush/Die for you
Tom Waits – Little drop of poison
APVR – Brave
APVR –Swimming
APVR –Snail Song
Nick Cave and the bad seeds –Loverman

But I know there are many more songs like this out there so help me please? What songs do you like to listen to before leaving the house to get in the mood? Do you know any songs that are similar to the ones I've listed? or anything else really?

This icon is called "Brian Dresden Dolls" (because it's Brian from Dresden dolls, of course)

EDIT: Have added more awesome songs to my list...

Lately I´ve been in a slump musicwise, not listening to anything new. But now I´m glad to say it´s over.

Newly discovered bands this week includes:

Air
the Killers (listened to an entire album and realized that they were in fact cool...)
Revolution void
A particularly vicious rumor

Rediscovered love for long lost bands this week:

David Bowie (like I could ever really forget you)
the Cure (that is, more specifically the "kiss me kiss me kiss me" album)
the Dandy Warhols

I love this! Please give me more new stuff to listen to. What´s your favourite bands right now? I want more music...

Last week I discovered a page with legal downloads. Obviously, I downed everything that I could think I could possibly be interested in, sort of randomly. The result was that I had a bunch of music on my computer from bands I have never heard of. Yesterday, I checked out the first of them: Revolution Void. And my god did they kick ass! Sorta drum and bass meets jazz. Loved it! A must hear for the rest of you as well!

Pandora has also been a way for me to discover new music. And for your benefit [livejournal.com profile] akselwestlund. Now you must hear "the snail song" by a particularly vicious rumor. Come on, you know you want to. Not only does it have a snail in the title, it´s also so cool!

Well, time to actually do some work at my workplace. Be shiny people
