So, I'm here at work, thinking about the big questions in life. And I wonder: how does one decide on a set of morals and ethics? I believe that a large part of it is conditioned in through media, childrens books, parents and society in general, but I also believe that one has free will and are able to make decitions at least a little bit by oneself.

So my question(s) to you is: do you believe in right and wrong? what are your views on moral and ethics and how did you decide on them?

Crap indeed, men klart jeg svarer :P

Me nad carl ended up discussing whether sin exists or not the other day. And since he's a christian and all, he believes pretty firmly that there are actions that are considered wrong or sinful regardless if people are hurt by them or not because there are a mandatory set of morals that one should follow.

I don't believe that the same set of morals works on everyone, or in every situations. Whenever themes like that comes up, I end up ranting about the same old utilitarian crap. I blankly refuse to look at any action as wrong if it doesn't hurt anyone.

I totally agree with you that something is not wrong if it doesn't hurt anyone. I don't believe, however, that I am a utalitarianist. I could never kill one person to save a village...

So, where does you view that something is not wrong if it hurts noone come from? How did you end up with that set of beliefs?

uh, really? Nopt being able to doesn't mean that it's not right though. I mean. If you was standing there and the village was far away i would probably save you, but it doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do. Anyway. With my way of life i probably kill a village a week. So do you. Doesn't feel too awsome but it's true.

I'm not sure...fikk aldri helt taket på omsorgsetikk, men jeg kjenner meg litt igjen i det. Yeah, I know. However, I can't feel too bad about it because I'm feeling bad about so much else.

Like Americans! I'm afraid of Americans! Did you read yesterday's article in Klassekampen on American prison tactics? They locked a man up for 3 1/2 years without acutually charging him with anything! He was locked in a small cell without lighting, and whenever he was supposed to go anywhere he was chained hand and foot, forced to wear large black blindfolds that effectively denied him sight, and large head phones robbing him of his hearing. Can you imagine not being able to hear or see or touch anyone for over 3 years? The man went insane, and the only reason we're hearing of it is because the people working in the prison were stupid enough to shoot a film of him being taken to the dentist (blindfolded, headphoned, chained and without information of where they were going or why!). And he wasn't the only one. And he was an American citizen. And even the supreme court ruling against this sort of thing has only led to minimal changes and nothing more than reprimandes on the smallfish involved with this. SO scared and disgusted! What can one do against a country that I feel is slowly going bad?

Slowly going bad? They have gone past rotten a long time ago.

And wow, - can that actually be true? I'm getting afraider of americans every day. But as long as they are the supreme rulers of the world, what can one do?

THat's exactly the problem. Things like that makes me wanna pretend to be a school teacher and go over and yell at america. Problem with yelling at a country is that it won't listen to reason. Since people don't feel bad unless you yell at them directly, and call them by name, and so on...

Oh well. Oh well.

Og homsepop my ass! Når du sier homsepop tenker jeg på de bandene til julie, eller evt. Jon Almås sin sang fra Erlend og Stein Jo. The Cure høres ikke sånn ut! Kanskje litt poppete ja, men ikke homsepoppete...

I don't believe in anything, and least of all in man making their own decisions. However, I might concider the idea of me making decisions for everybody, eventhough it might be stressful. Yeah, that's a good plan. And hey, if it don't work out, there's always cuba.

wtf? You don't believe that man makes his own decisions? or that he should?
