I just realized that I am a woman prone to prejudice. This, of course, did not come as a total surprise, usually I joke that I am a woman who nurture my prejudices, but now I just discovered a new one: I honestly believe that all swedish people are die-hard feminists and thus I feel uncomfortable talking about D/s with them. I take it that this stems from my experiences with Swedes, who each and every one have been a die-hard feminist, conscious of her/his own body and interested in queer theory/gender bending/non-genderspesific sex and so forth. This resulted in an uncomfortable and long winded conversation with a young Swedish woman who asked for a game for her and her boyfriend. I suggested the only boardgame we have, but since that is a D/s-game, I suddenly found myself flustered and anxious that I might have offended her by offering her something that might be seen as demeaning to her or her boyfriend. She did not react like that, but I am still shaky. This is a prejudice I will not nurture!
