So, yesterday I saw the movie Blue Crush. Even as I read the back of the cover, the wonderment started. Blue Crush is a gripping tale about three surfergirls who work hard to get one of them into one of the most male dominated surfercompetitions in the world, Anne Marie (the lead) has only one week to go when an NFL football player comes to hawaii and makes her swoon. A classic romance you think no? Well, the classifications stated it as an action. Pussled, I sat down to watch this movie. (Side bar: The only actual reason I wanted to watch it was because Michelle Rodriguez starred in it).
Initial impression: Oh my god, this movie has no pretty people in it! Also, it seems quite dull.
Then, in the opening credits, pusslement factor two emerged. "Based on the magazine article" No, really? Not based on a true story, or even on the novel by? No, based on a magazine article.
As I watched the story unfold,I realized something new. This movie is not an action movie. Actually it´s the opposite of an action movie since it had no emotional high- or low-points what so ever. On the plus side, everybody reacted to what happened to them like actual people would, on the down side this meant that nothing exciting ever happened. It seemed more like a fake documentary of surfing than an action, or even a romance. With ugly people.
The only positive things to be said about this movie is that Michelle Rodriguez is, as always, hot. And that it produced an emotional response in me: First boredom. then boredom bordering on desperation and in the end annoyment and rage that it wouldn´t end. I remember thinking: get the surfing over with or die bitch. These are your only two options. Too bad it wasn´t up to me, so the movie went on for another 20 minutes after that burst of emotion.
This is one of the movies nominated to the worlds dullest movie-award. Please supply your own worst movie experiences to help us all to know which movies not to watch.
