Yesterday I went to the start up meeting for Knutepunkt 09, a Nordic larp conference that is hosted once every year. I has about 200 participants and is a great way to meet the übergeeks of the larping community. And I might have said that I could possibly be the boss of the 2009 conference in Norway. And I kinda want to. I have a lot of ideas on how to make it awesome, and if I get the people I want to join in and make it with me, it could be great. But on the other hand it is a daunting task, and it's kinda chilling that none of the big bosses from last time want to ever do it again. Also, it doesn't really work well with my new rule of never doing too much, since it's going to be a lot of work. And with a budget of 200.000 Norwegian crowns, it is scary to be the main girl behind it.

I can still back out. Should I?

Nah. But make sure you remember to "divert" some of the funds (lets say about half) to... causes. yup. Like... cool stuff for you?

Embezzlement?! That's what my friends suggest? *shakes head*

Are we the bad guys?

From: [identity profile] sortkatt.livejournal.com

Come on, it not stealing if you do it by... accident? Embezzlement is such an ugly word, lets call it... borrowing. Or just reaping the benefits of your own skills in using the available funds more efficiently. Come on... all the big boys do it.

Well, neat scamming aside: If you took this upon yourself as a way of trying to relieve feelings of not doing enough in your studies, fear of having behaved foolishly while drunk, that doing important and difficult stuff and being in charge is part of how you want to see your self or anything else in connection to being hung over, I would change my mind if I were in you shoes. If you genuinely _want_ to do it, and feel the only way of making your ideas heard is doing it yourself, _I_ would still change my mind because is sounds like horrible amounts of work which will decidedly dwarf the rewards (however great those will be). You might be a bit craftier than me, though, so perhaps you _might_ not regret not backing out enough times to almost make it worth it. Almost. Perhaps.

At least try to consider all the negative sides too. It's easy to forget them until the clock is 3 am, you have a paper due tomorrow, that bastard that's been calling all the time the last week to demand the final draft for the schedule is hammering at the door, you are out of coffee, the annoying woman that claims you mislaid her reference is calling you every fifth minute, you still have 7 sponsors left to contact today, half your underlings haven't done half of what they were supposed to, and the other half hasn't done anything, but are still making angry demands that you make the first half finish their tasks, your email inbox still has 174 unread messages, you haven't slept in two weeks, smiled in 7 or felt anything less than horrified in 12, the conference is in 3 days, and that rope hanging from the ceiling beams looks more and more like the only way out...

Well, I actually genuinely want to do this (and not just to feel like a good person), but I don't want to do it alone.

And yeah, the negative sides are being considered as well. I just don't know man. I'll think it over over Christmas I think. Yup, that's the plan.

Have good people around you, 1 whom you can rant to and listens, one whom write down, keeps track, and can always pull last times meeting resume up from her hat, one who is very good at practical stuff, one who is very good at thematic stuf, one whom is very good at social contact with AWIN organisers and participants (and preff have great intouch with the one keeping track so this ones head dosen't become ditzy) and some very good people WHO DOES THEIR JOB AND ALWAYS WILL DO AS TOLD / DELEGATED *^_^*

And ofc you should do it, and it will be great for your resume, if you ever have to lead projects or lead a grupp in any aspect *^_^*

You will do great

See, but I'll have to find these people and lure them into my awesome trap of greatness first. If I have that team, I could totally pull it of. If I get a bunch of people who do nothing (*points to [livejournal.com profile] sortkatts horror scenario*) I'm screwed.

Any ideas of people you think could pull it off with some experience?

*stops self from volunteering to be Martinemonster's secretary just to make her stress go away*

But seriously have some sort of secretary with my organizing skills. Just make it someone within the larp community. And don't mistake me for one of those.

However, should you ever run out of coffee, you know who to call, right?

From: [identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com

I sure do!

(My problem is that I don't really know how good the different people in the larp community is at actually doing the things they say they'll do.)
