A very random post with a freaky dream

Today’s workday started with me waking up after a really disturbing

I had this really disturbing dream last night. I was on vacation in Spain with Aina, her mother and two twin sisters and we were going to the beach. Everything was in dull colours and it looked as if we were in Norway in early autumn, not Spain in the summer. Anyways, we go into this kiosk to buy ice cream for the beach trip, and the people working there are peddling souvenirs and snakes, not ice cream. One customer says that he/she is going to prove his/her bravery by handling the most poisonous snake, and the owner lets the snake out of its cage. I’m standing close by looking at stupid key chains and I hear people screaming “look out” right before I step back and walk into the snake who jumps up and bites me in the forehead. I scream and try to get it off of me, but only succeed in getting it to bite my hand instead. I scream that the owner has to help me get it off, blood running from my forehead into my eyes, but he only tells me that if I can’t kill the snake, the poison will kill me. My only chance of survival is to kill the snake. (It should be mentioned here that I have this policy of never hurting any living thing including little weird insects that I find in my bathroom. Yesterday I spent 10 minutes goading a little wormy thing out of my bathroom so I could take a shower certain that I didn’t kill it. Call me squeamish or call me nice, your choice, but I never kill things.) Somewhere in that half second after he told me, my feelings changed from fear and desperation to resolve and anger, and I ripped the snake off my hand, violently, threw it down on the floor and use the side of my boot to decapitate it, to general cheering and applause. The general feeling in the room was that I was a very brave and amazing person, since I could kill the snake in such a brutal and decisive way.

Here I get a flashback to earlier in the day when I accidentally killed an eel. I’m sitting at a table asking Aina’s mother how to best prepare eel, while I’m eating raw pieces of it. She agreed that a stew would be most appropriate.

Back in the real-time dream I realized that the “lady of the sea” (whom I suddenly knew was a super-mermaid) would be very cross at me for killing her snakes when the owner of the store wanted me to buy a mermaid-shaped flute that I knew would summon her. Right then, Aina’s sisters come in and say in one, very creepy voice, “We should summon Alalthazar, son of the forest” before they exit the store. I know I don’t want them to do that, as Alalthazar is the enemy of the lady of the sea, but I don’t know why.

and rushing to the office. I feel pretty today, with pearls and a pretty yet utterly comfortable skirt. Wish I’d have had time for breakfast (fruit just isn’t the same as fibre in the morning), but I guess you can’t have it all. The other secretary, sweet Vigdis, was back and told me I’d forgotten to say if I could come to Siri’s retirement dinner/celebration. Ups. I of course said yes, and then found out it would be at Bølgen og Moi, a restaurant so swanky that I’ve never even sat foot in there, and we’re having a four course meal and drinks included. This is going to be so awesome!

My idea of reaching my goal of being strong, fit, slim and beautiful is a little bit hampered by the fact that my lungs still aren’t working. Going to work is enough to make me tired and I keep having to postpone fun stuff because I’m too tired from work to do anything else, which is very bad for band practice for instance. Blargh! Oh well, saw Dog Soldiers yesterday. Awesome. I love Lucius Verinus (you know, the guy from Rome) and now that he doesn’t have to compete with Titus Pollo, he was so utterly butch. Definitely a must-see.

Oh, and by the way, just because I put my dream behind a cut does not mean that I don’t desperately want your input on it! It freaked me out…

And, here, I bring you more memes.

I have no clue. Before it's possible to know what dreams mean, you have to know what the elements of them means to the dreamer right, and I have no clue with you. I had, but i don't really know anymore. SO sorry, - perhaps next time.

[identity profile] mirazandar.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. And i had a nightmare where i tried to buy makeup. The entire dream was about finding the perfect foundation. WHy? No clue.

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome!

I'm beginning to think that this is my mind's revenge on me. You see, yesterday I thought "I never have those funky dreams I can't explain anymore. Dreaming that West Ham wins a football game is just plain dull. I wish I had more weird dreams" And thank you again Martine...way to go! ;)

[identity profile] mirazandar.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
weeeeeeeell. they make good stories, that they do. But they aren't weonderful things to have. Few things are worse than waking up panicstruck and gradually realising after ten minutes or so of "oh no, what have i done" that it was a dream, that didn't end until you woke up.

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
I hate those. I actually woke up with the feeling of squishing a snake till it's head fell off today...not a good feeling...

[identity profile] mirazandar.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
and me,,, panicing because i chose the wrong fuondation,. and it was really expensive.

shit. why does one dream like this?

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know...I'd like to think it means I work out all my agression and general oogieness at night so I can be a pleasant and well-functioning person in the daytime, but I could be wrong...

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
But you still know me right? Which elements are you unfamiliar with? (If it's aina's family, that's just weird cause I don't know them at all...)

[identity profile] mirazandar.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
you know. here are things that tell you things, but that doesn't tell me things.

Spain, where you have been. Try and think about how you felt about being there and stuff. All i know about your trip to spain is that is was claustrophobic
Aina's family who I haven' met, thing about what you feel about them
Eels, (i love smoked eels) - what you think about those
Mermaids and the lady of the sea, - someone she could remind of? Something from a book?

I don't know anything about any of these. But i bet you do yourself. So really you should do the pondering.

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Um, I'm pondering (really, I can't get it out of my mind), but I don't know. Maybe I need to talk it through, you know with words and speaking, not writing about it. Hmmm...

[identity profile] mirazandar.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
might be. And feel free.

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Neato! Will call if I get the time at work. Because I have these unbelievably boring things to do that demands about 10 prosent of you brain capasity, but all of your body, I can't really take the time to call people (most of the time). Gah!

[identity profile] aj-stalin.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
so... snakes and eels, huh? I'm sure Freud would be ravished...

But it prolly means you're gay.

Umm it might mean something about family. In the West Africa Snakes are about families and new family members. And the person who saves you from the snake will help you get rid of a baby. Umm. I dunno.

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
But nobody could help me but me, also, if I'm having a baby, then it's most likely the second virgin birth (or not virgin, but I can almost guarantee that no man had anything to do with it to put it that way...)

[identity profile] cheewen.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Being rather not-smart when it comes to dreams, I have no clue.
I however, woke up with various Halvdan Sivertsen-songs parading through my head. First and foremost "Sommerfuggel i Vinterland". It took me hours to calm down and become a normal person again :|

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank god I read that comment with music on in the background. My mind is still trying it's best to schreech out that song you mentioned, but I'm actively opposing it!

[identity profile] krapyl.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Dreaming about snakes is supposed to mean that change will come in your life. Or maybe you've watched "snake on a p+lane" recently?
(If not, you should).

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen it, but not recently.

Hm, change you say? I have been thinking about travelling like, a lot, lately, so maybe it's got stuck in my brain? That would explain why I was in another country and the snakes. But why am I killing them?

[identity profile] krapyl.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, this is fun, let me be freudian....
The change is scary, it means you will have to break some of your principles. But not doing so could be fatal... Water means emotions, so perhaps the mermaid could be an old sweetheart...or possibly a new one?

Weee, I should totally teach divination.

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh? Maybe you should teach divination (you're better at it than the teacher harry's got)?

It actually fits. If I go on this travel, I might have to quit my job a month early, which is unkind to do to the job and something I'd never even considered before. It seems almost immoral to do so, but if I don't it'll fuck up everything else I do in the fall. This makes sense, it's almost scary! :o

[identity profile] cheewen.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Smart girl. I'm sleeping with music on tonight, I am never going through that again. Mornings are horrid enough as it is, I don't need the added stress of evil songs of doom taking over.

Also, I have a new theory conserning your dream: there's a lack of Anne in your town. Quite simply. Watch out, if all goes as planned I'll be arriving in april sometime, before going to bergen to visit my brother. Yay!

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that must be it. Great! can't wait to see you. We must totally hang when you get here! :)

[identity profile] cheewen.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Definately! (which is why im warning you in your journal ;) )

Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] sandchigger.livejournal.com 2007-02-28 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
This dream, like any other you've had is completely without any meaning, rhyme or reason. It's just random neurons firing in your brain while you're unconscious and can best be thought of as a kind of memory dump for your brain.

Fun fact: it's quite likely that the story you related above was made up by the higher conscious portions of your brain after the random images mentioned (spain, friends, eels, mermaids, et al) were dredged up by your lower brain. We don't, apparently, dream in stories. We dream images and then make up stories for them after they're done projecting themselves on the backs of our eyelids. Which is why some folks, such as myself, "never dream". We don't construct the narrative so the imagery just fades away.

Yeah, go on, ruin my chance at teaching at Hogwarts, why don't you :p

Somedays you have to be banal otherwise you fall to Bedlam.

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, come on...I'm too banal most of the time. I like to keep my life as glamour-filled as possible! ;)

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] sandchigger.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a thin line we walk, yanno.

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Besides, bedlam is so much cooler than the alternative! I'd rather be crazy bedlam chick that joe normal...

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] sandchigger.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll stick with walking the line rather than talking to the clothes on it, if it's alright with you. ;)

See? Told you: Dull! ;)

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] sandchigger.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I never claimed to be anything ridiculously fun and/or exciting did I?

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hm, maybe you didn't. But sandchigger is a very fun-sounding name. Why Sandchigger anyways? What's a chigger?

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] sandchigger.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
A chigger is a small biting insect and a sandchigger is one of same which lives in the desert. As for why I chose that as my screenname/nickname/internet identifier/thing-a-ma-jig... It all dates back to my freshman year of High School (so 1993). In the intro to computers class (which I couldn't just test out of...) one of our assignments was to make an e-mail address on one of the free providers (yahoo, msn, a handful of others which have since been eaten by yahoo and msn). But every name I chose was taken. So I just chose something at random from an episode of Ren and Stimpy (the one where they join the foreign legion, a guy in the background has a shirt that says "Kiss me, I don't have sand chiggers!") and surprisingly enough, noone had taken that. So it's been me ever since.

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah...that explains it. But what's Ren and Stimpy?

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] sandchigger.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a very funny cartoon back when I was a lad.

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
First of all: technocratic answers are dull! End of story. It's much more fun to try to interpret dreams than to just walk around with oogie feelings an entire day because one can remember the feeling of squishing a snake to death.

Second of all (and to try and actually give you a serious answer, I know, it's diffcult for me, but I'll try...): I don't believe that dreams are sent to me by god or any other higher being or whatever, I don't believe in prophetic dreams or that dreams come from the collective conciousness of humans and thus that a certain animal has a certain meaning for all humans. I do believe, however that dreams are the mind's way of processing experiences and feelings. Therefore I like to process my dreams afterward as a way to try and see if I can't make sense of some of the feelings that I might not be aware of in waking. So there.

And besides, the reason you don't think it's fun to process dreams is probably because you don't dream (or don't remember your dreams). Cause dreams are fun. I often dream that I'm a superhero who can fly and kill bad guys, it's awesome!

[identity profile] mirazandar.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
If you think about it, his dull and tecnical answer means the same as you were thinking. He said it's a dump of memories. Well, if it's where you dump thoughts, fears, hopes, memories... it means that one parts of the time can figure out what's on your mind, right?

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at...in my own incomprehensible way...Thanks for stating it clearly ;)

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] sandchigger.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The last dreams I remember having were when I was in elementary school. But I'll stop peeing on your parade, enjoy the interpretation. :D

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] martinemonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It's okay, I'm only ranting at you for fun... ;) Besides, I like your comments (even though you are dull...) ;)

Re: Technocratic answer for the win!

[identity profile] sandchigger.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I know you're just ranting for grins. It's all good! =D
