My new obsession and a great day

So, my mom came visiting today. I've gotten two pairs of gorgeous new shoes, 4 tops and a purse from her (since she's the best mum ever), we've made dinner together, gotten drunk on wine, watched Bridget Jones' diary (again for the third time) and now she's sleeping while I'm waiting to get tired enough to sleep myself. Suffice to say, today's been wonderful and I'm drunk.

Now, onto my new obsession with Nick Cave and the bad seeds. that is, I've been obsessed with them before, but not to this degree. Everytime I relax I realize that "Red Right Hand" is running through my head. Not a big problem since it's a great song, but I'd like to share it with you. So please follow this link (found by [livejournal.com profile] chesire_monkey) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRPq4_xwSrA and see the lovely video based on Buffy ses 7 with my new favourite song.

Oh, and part of my love for this song is based on the lyrics, so please read it!

Nick Cave: Red Right Hand
Take a little walk to the edge of town, go across the tracks
Where the viaduct looms like a bird of doom, as it shifts and cracks
Where secrets lie in the border fires, in the humming wires,
Hey man you know you're never coming back
Past the square, past the bridge, past the mills past the stacks
On a gathering storm comes a tall handsome man
In a dusty black coat with a red right hand.

He'll wrap you in his arms tell you that you've been a good boy
He'll rekindle all the dreams it took you a lifetime to destroy.
He'll reach deep into your soul, steal your shrinking soul
but there wont be a single thing that you can do
He's a god, he's a man, he's a ghost, he's a guru
They're whispering his name though this disappearing land
But hidden in his coat is a red right hand

You dont own no money? He'll get you some
You don't have no car? he'll get you one
You dont have no self respect you feel like an insect,
Well dont you worry buddy coz here he comes
Through the ghettos and the barrio and the bowery and the slums
A shadow is cast whereever he stands
Stacks of green paper in his red right hand

You'll see him in your nightmares, you'll see him in your dreams
He'll appear out of no where but he aint what he seems
You'll see him in your head, on the TV screen
And hey buddy, Im warning you to turn it off
He's a ghost, he's a god, he's a man, he's a guru
You're one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan
designed and directed by his red right hand.

*squeeeeeeeeeeee*

Isn't it WONDERFUL? I can't believe I didn't know of his genius before. I've been so isolated. I can't stop listening to him. AT ALL. Everything is Nick Cave centered right now. *twirls in his awesomeness* Also, it's probably better to be caught singing 'Red Right Hand' than it is to be singing 'Stagger Lee.' (heh heh - oops)

You know, after your last post I went and bought myself some Leonard Cohen. Good stuff there (but I can't listen for long since I must go back for my NC fix). I've been trying to think of another song for you to add to your list, but nothing is quite as cool as Red Right Hand. What about 'Loverman'?

True, it probably is (she said trying not to admit that she'd been caught doing just that...)

I'm glad, I love LC as well. :D

Loverman is hereby added to the list! :)
